Taber dojo 25 anniversary


The Taber dojo is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Please join Sensei Dominique Tkaczyk for a demonstration put on by her students, and a banquet and short program to follow.

When: September 21, from 5-7 pm

Where: 5001 64 Avenue, Taber

Cost: adults are $30, kids 6-12 are $15, and under 6 are free

Taka Karate School 46th Annual Demonstration


Taka Karate School will be hosting its 46th annual demonstration on Sunday May 26, 2019 from 2-4pm at the Yates Memorial Centre in Lethbridge AB. Please come and experience traditional Okinawan karate from an internationally respected teacher and his students. Sensei Kinjo holds a 10th degree black belt in Gohakukai Karate (Goju-Ryu and Tomari-te styles). His dedication to the art of karate and his community service have resulted in numerous awards and honors, including the Caring Canadian Award (presented by the Governor General of Canada) and an honorary PhD from the University of Lethbridge.

Demonstration tickets are $20 and can be purchased from dojo students, Sensei Kinjo, or at the door on the day of the event.

Sensei Kinjo TV interview


Sensei Kinjo was interviewed by a local TV station for his upcoming 45th anniversary demonstration and it will air on the Miracle Channel tonight (Friday May 18) at 5:00pm and 11:00pm. If anyone is interested in attending the demonstration, there are still tickets available and can be purchased at the door ($20). The event will be held Sunday May 20, 2018 at the University of Lethbridge Theatre from 1:00pm-4:00pm. There will be a number of teachers and students from Canada, the U.S., and Japan performing, including Kaicho Sensei Iken Tokashiki (founder of Gohakukai Karate).

Taka Karate School 45th Anniversary Demonstration May 20, 2018


We are proud to announce the upcoming Taka Karate School 45th Anniversary Demonstration in recognition of Sensei Kinjo (10th dan) and his milestone of teaching Gohakukai Karate in Lethbridge for the past 45 years. The event will take place on Sunday May 20, 2018 at the University of Lethbridge Theatre. Tickets are $20 and are available now at Taka Karate School (461 10th Street North Lethbridge).

Many teachers and students from Canada, United States, Okinawa and mainland Japan will be attending and participating in this event. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the dedication, skill and passion of those involved in the art of karate.

2014 demonstration and seminar


The Taka Karate School hosted a seminar on May 17.  Students learned a wide range of applications to various kata.  Our annual demonstration was held on May 18.

Sensei Kinjo receives 2013 Foreign Minister’s Commendation

On October 28, 2013, Sensei Kinjo received the Foreign Minister’s Commendation from the Consulate General of Japan in Calgary.  This commendation recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the goodwill and friendship between Japan and another country.

Sensei Kinjo receives 10th dan black belt


On May 19, 2013, Kaicho Sensei Iken Tokashiki, founder of Gohakukai Karate-Do, presented Sensei Kinjo with his 10th dan black belt.

40th Anniversary of Taka Karate School


The Taka Karate School celebrated its 40th anniversary on May 18 and 19. On May 18, the school held a seminar for all students, and several black belt students tested for their next black belt dan.

On May 19, the school held its annual demonstration at the Yates Memorial Centre, with proceeds donated to the Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale.

As part of these celebrations, over 40 people from Japan were in Lethbridge to participate. The visitors included Kaicho Sensei Iken Tokashiki, founder of Gohakukai Karate-Do, Sensei Tadao Tokashiki, Sensei Terukazu Shiroma, Sensei Masahiro Miyazato, Sensei Kenji Ishii, Sensei Masataka Onoe, and Sensei Katsuyuki Shimabukuro.

Sensei Kinjo receives prestigious award


On April 17, Sensei Kinjo was presented the Caring Canadian award by the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

“The award recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smarter and more caring nation. The award also highlights the fine example set by these volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are so much a part of our Canadian character.”
