Fundraising
Ken Cote has looked into a Kernels popcorn fundraiser. This will start right away as order forms must be in by May 25.

Mitchell contacted Devry Greenhouse for a poinsettia fundraiser for the fall. They will deliver to Lethbridge. If we order enough, the delivery will be free. The company will also set up a website for us so people can order online, but payments are not processed on the website. We will have to be careful to ensure plants can be picked up as quickly as possible, and not sit in the dojo for too long.

Mika has also looked into a beef jerky fundraiser – this might happen in the fall or in spring 2013.

“Asian Day”
May 20 – “Asian Day” is being held by the Ethnic Association of Lethbridge at the Galt Museum. The Nikkei Cultural Society has asked us to do a demonstration that day. Some of the younger students will be asked if they can go. James and Mika to organize/lead groups that day.

May dojo schedule
Sensei is going to Japan this month. All black belt students are asked to help out, especially Tuesday and Thursday 6:30 class. There will not be any class on Fridays in May.

2013 Demonstration
Demonstration will be May long weekend. Demonstration will be Sunday, May 19. Information about a seminar and BBQ will come later. There are about forty people expected to come to the demonstration from Japan. This may be the last time Kaicho Sensei can come to Canada, so Sensei would like as many people to come as possible.

Towels – no news yet. Sample towels were not the right kind of towel, so Mike Inaba is looking into getting different towels. The towels may not happen this year.

Sensei Kinjo receives prestigious award

On April 17, Sensei Kinjo was presented the Caring Canadian award by the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

“The award recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smarter and more caring nation. The award also highlights the fine example set by these volunteers, whose compassion and engagement are so much a part of our Canadian character.”
